I have seen several reports on the new Russian textbooks, where a big deal is made about how they distort history. (New Russian Textbooks ) I thought, "What is the big deal?, the Yankees have been doing that to use since the 1860’s?". History text books are always interesting since they give you clues as to what is the current party line. They devote extra attention to the topics and issues deemed important to the powers that be.
Look at how Lincoln is often portrayed as "The Great Emancipator", when in reality he enslaved the Southern peoples. He also destroyed the idea that the States created the Federal government, replacing the States with "the people". He changed the so-called reason for the war with his Gettysburg address. His speech made it sound like he was preserving liberty, when the reality was just the opposite. Little is said of how Lincoln filled the US Army with known communists in officer positions.
Text books also often portray FDR as a ‘good guy’. They play down his communist associations. Those like Congressman Martin Dies, who exposed what FDR was doing are often ridiculed if not relegated to footnotes. The texts often attempt presenting FDR as a favorite of the people. The reality was that many in Texas and the South spoke out against him and his illegal actions. His actions set the stage for the Federal Leviathan to gobble up freedoms at an alarming rate. In terms of policy, he was a dictator on par with those of his age. He was no friend of Texas or the South.
Although much is made of the Russian text books, recall that they can teach the Bible in Russian schools. Russia allowed many of its states to secede. Russia actually promotes Christmas celebrations. Compare that with the US, where the Bible has been removed from the schools, Christmas is discouraged and states are forced to remain in the Union through military might.
I like what Dr. Michael Hill once said. "When I look at the US flag, I see prison bars". There is a great deal of truth in what he said. The more you open your eyes and see, the more you realize he is correct in his assessment.
