The current economic situation has inspired some of the counties in Northern California and Oregon to revive an old call for secession. It seems that they are tired of the betrayal by both California and Oregon. The counties in question plan on forming the State of Jefferson. The idea originally began around 1941, but was shelved after Pearl Harbor in the name of ‘national unity’. Perhaps it is time to re-think secession as the policies of the governing bodies are increasingly out of synch with the wishes and needs of the local communities. Although some critics may say that the Constitution does not allow such actions, consider what the tyrant Lincoln did with West Virginia and how the territory of New Mexico was stolen from Texas. The precedent has been set for a new State to be carved out of an existing State.
Since the Constitution has been disregarded concerning the Bill of Rights, ex post facto laws and the requirements for the Senate and Presidency, what is to stop these counties from seceding?
