One of the things that the Confederate States respected was “freedom of the press”. During the War of Northern Aggression, the Lincoln regime saw to it that many newspapers were shut down when they printed articles that were not flattering to them. It was at that time that the propaganda concerning the war began, which continues to this day. President Davis did not crack down on the press during his time in office.
Although the Patriots of the American War of Secession from England fought for freedom of the press, when the Yankee President John Adams took office, that freedom was quickly stifled. Freedom of the press is something that tyrants do not like or tolerate for very long, whether Lincoln, John Adams or the present regime. In the latest move, CONgress critter Henry Waxman is advocating that government step in and reshape the press. I guess that he forgot that freedom of the press means freedom from the government and its regulation. Government is NOT the solution, it is the problem.
Besides that Henry Waxman has a notorious record for promoting nanny government control policies and its programs. We do not need more government, nor do we need more Waxman legislation. (Bear in mind he is one of the movers and shakers on climate legislation based on the myth of man made global warming. He writes the policy, like cap and trade- driven by alarmists who push bad science).
Whenever government steps in, it has ruined the industry involved. Look at the government schools, the automotive industry, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc. Government seeks to control everything it touches rather than its original purpose which was to preserve and EXPAND liberties. The empire has not taken steps to enlarge our liberties in quite some time. Rather than expand its power, it needs to expand our liberties, especially in areas such as freedom of the press. The media indeed has problems. If they reported the news rather than spew propaganda and did not have to abide by excessive government regulation, they would be able to turn a profit. People want news that they can trust. People want a news source they can trust. Look at FOX news. People watch it since the networks offer no decent alternative. Fox is not the be all and end all, but it is better than what else is out there.
In a Southern Nation, there would not be government involvement in the press. The press would be free to report the news as it saw fit. Allowing competition and reducing central control of the media is essential to a profitable media.
Liberty for Texas and the South!
